Chatakpur, West Bengal, India
Located at an altitude of 7,887 feet, CHATAKPUR is a paradise for nature lovers as one can get a spectacular view of the imposing mountain range of Kanchenjunga and at the same time experience the overwhelming lush green forest in a quiet village setting with a population of only around 90 people and 18 village houses. Chatakpur is the hilltop next to famous Tiger Hill sunrise point. It is a small forest village with less than two dozen huts and its total inhabitants number is less than a hundred. This makes Chatakpur one of the most exclusive and secluded tourist destinations of the region. DHANMAYA NIWAS HOMESTAY is one of the best available homestay at Chatakpur which belongs to one of the villagers named Bal Bahadur Thapa. Our Home Stay is inside the Senchel Wildlife Sanctuary. The homestay was started in 2012. It offers 4(four) big rooms with an excellent view of the surroundings in which a family can easily accommodate in 1(one) room. Our homestay provides proper water supply and electricity with quality rooms including Room Heater facility. Each room includes attached toilet-bathrooms with Geyser facility. Chatakpur offers a number of popular trek routes that lead to the top of the Tiger Hill. During this you might even have a glimpse of the 'Chumbalumba' or Mount Everest. Tourist can climb rock faces or avail the trekking routes both downhill and uphill that lead to various destinations. They can also climb the watch tower to view the sunrise to take a panoramic view of Sandakphu that takes 10 minutes walk from our Homestay. The view from the 'Watch Tower' not only includes Sandakphu but also Plains, Mountains and whole of Sikkim such as Nathulla, Chardham, Namchi and many more. This View Tower is also known as the Sunrise Point, and as expected the view of sunrise from the tower is simply awesome. Kanchenjunga range will be with you all along on a clear day. And thats probably the main reason why tourists love this place the most. From our Homestay if you go 100 meters or so to the right, you enter the jungle. There are several forest trails here through lush greenery that are ideal for light treks. On this trek we provide a trained guide with you as the forest also harbours wildlife species like leopards, barking deer and several other animals. If you are lucky, you can even see a Red Panda. A trail from the homestay leads down to a nice small pond, locally known as 'Pokhri' that is about 10 minutes walk. As the forest is also a home to a number of lovely colourful birds like Blue Magpie, Bulbul, Verditer Flycatcher, Pipit, Long tail Shrike, Warbler, Prinia and lot more, its a great place for the Bird watchers as well.
